The Next Iteration of Combat Armor

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Special thanks 1MOA Solutions for bringing this ballistic upgrade to our attention. Rumors that Kolt Raynor could kick Mandalore the Preserver‘s ass are unconfirmed, but highly probable.

“The announcement that the Army is planning to issue Soldiers “Kevlar Underpants” lead to some comments concerning how far the military will go to armor dismounted troops. We’ve already seen the infamous DAPS and “nut flap” and I say that’s skip all that BS and do it right. Mandalorian armor for everyone. Yeah, that’s right…Boba Fett style. I’ve got mine already!” -Adam

The Mandalorians wear the finest armor blood can buy.” Count Dooku

Man Shoots Himself Point Blank

Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

One Glock 20 + One Hornady 200gr hollow-point 10mm round + a man willing to shoot himself while wearing body armor = massive stupidity… and this video. I was almost tempted to say this ended (surprisingly) without tragedy, but the vid itself is tragic enough to prove that statement false.

Zombie Awareness 101: Interviews with Romero and Kirkman

Monday, February 27th, 2012

Walking Dead has certainly increased the zombie awareness of the United States, if that’s even possible. We’re fans of the comic series more than the television stuff, though both are damn good…but that’s not the point. The point is, here’s an interview with George Romero.

Now, just so we’re clear, we love Robert Kirkman at least as much as we do George Romero (if not more so), so here you go:

Nick Wooster + Leffot = Woodland Camo Shoes

Monday, February 27th, 2012

A collaborative effort between Nick Wooster and Leffot has led to these woodland camo shoes. The Brogue Cap Toe and Wingtips, made in England by Alfred Sargent, are made from camo suede with triple leather soles. They’ll debut in September of this year, priced at $750 for the Brogue Cap Toe, and $695 for the wingtip. Pairs can currently be reserved with a 20% deposit. The materials are nice, but you’re definitely paying for the name with these shoes.

Stockpile Designs

Sunday, February 26th, 2012

Stockpile Designs takes old, unused military waste, such as rusty bombshells and empty canisters, and turns them into home decor. Seen above is the Silo End Table with a dummy WWII Naval round used as the base. You can see more at Stockpile Designs on Etsy.

Hot gamer chick: Veronica Belmont’s new club

Sunday, February 26th, 2012

You know how much we love Veronica Belmont. Well, she’s started a new book club.

Says Veronica (who is in love with TFB Knuckledragger, though she isn’t aware of it yet):

“As if one book club wasn’t enough, I’ve joined forces with some of my fantastically geeky girlfriends (Felicia Day, Kiala Kazebee, and Bonnie Burton) for a little project called the Vaginal Fantasy Hangout. This new monthly Google+ hangout session will focus on books from the fantasy, science fiction, paranormal romance, and mystery genres. There will also probably be a little sexy-time (as I like to call it) in the stories as well, which we will discuss to great lengths (and to our great amusement).

Our first episode is up, and we also have a Goodreads group and a Facebook page! Hope you’ll join us! Next episode will tape live on Feb 27th at 8pm PST over on Felicia’s G+ page…”

Nick Fury Limited Edition Action Figure

Saturday, February 25th, 2012

For the record, I’m more of a fan of the original Earth-616, Howling Commandos Fury than I am of the Ultimates Fury that Samuel Jackson’s character in the upcoming ‘The Avengers’ is clearly based on. Having said that, this is one pretty bad ass action figure. Aside from a highly-detailed 1/6th scale (approximately 30 cm tall) sculpt, the figure also features over 30 points of articulation. Accessories include a labeled stand, multiple interchangeable hands, an RPG, pistol, and suitcase with light-up tesseract (Cosmic Cube for the purists) and patterns.

You can see more images on Hot Toys’ Facebook page.

Here’s an action figure you don’t see very often.

Might be something the Mad Duo should pick up for a little hate-sharing session.

The Deadliest Game – A Dr. Grordbort Short Film

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

Dr Grordbort Presents: The Deadliest Game from Media Design School on Vimeo.

If you’re not familiar with WETA’s line of Dr. Grordbort’s Infallible Aether Oscillators, then they’re a line of super-detailed collectable Steampunk model weapons that each are equal to or greater than the price of a similarly-sized real steel gun.

This short film by Media Design School, based in Auckland, New Zealand, explores the Dr. Grordbort universe as Lord Broadforce hunts the local wildlife on an alien planet. The movie is a mix of CGI and live action and took 11 students over 22 weeks to complete. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

Nazis from the moon…Iron Sky

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

This may be the greatest nazi-fighting flick since Indian Jones told us he hated them…or, maybe not. It’s gotta be the best one since Surf Nazis Must Die though, right? One can only hope the Blue Brothers are given the chance to defend the planet along with our military.

Col. Astray’s Bridegrooms of Death

Monday, February 20th, 2012

La Legion’s Sniper School

spanish-sniperLa Legion is one of the most decorated military units in history. Organized by Colonel Millan Astray during the early 20th century, following the model of the French Foreign Legion, it has shared and maybe surpassed the French heroism and “Espirit de Corps.” Both share the same bold and aggressive tactics and both have died in great numbers facing their enemies. The Spanish Foreign Legion nickname, Novios de la Muerte, the “Bridegrooms of Death,” and their motto, Viva la Muerte, “Long Live Death,” reflect their combat attitude.

Their creed reflects their ethics and morale: never avoid confrontation, never leave a comrade behind, and seeking death as the way of defeating any enemy, through superhuman aggressiveness. Its members, regardless of rank, are titled Caballero Legionario, or “Knight Legionnaire,” and since women were admitted, they were titled Dama Legionaria, or “Lady Legionnaire.” Legionnaires wear a special cap called Chapiri and have some traditions like tattoos, long beards and wearing their shirts open to expose their chests. These allowances, part of the Legionnaire mystique are being attacked for the sake of normalization, and may be part of the past soon. Times have changed and decades of politically correct governments and restricting ROEs have tamed that “old school” aggressiveness, but La Legion still mystifies death as a goal, as a way to conquer any enemy.

Kalashnikov Vodka – AK47 Bottle

Sunday, February 19th, 2012

Limited to a production of 13,000 units, this Lux grade Vodka brewed by Glasov Distillery is, true to its name, bottled in AK-47-shaped bottles. The 1 liter bottles come in a ‘Military Green’ wooden case and feature a numbered dog tag. Most of them have already been snatched up by collectors and the like, but there’s still some supply left, at least according to the site www.kalashnikov-vodka.com, where you can order a bottle. However, expect to spend £250 ($396 US), not including additional fees and postage.

Sophnet – Camouflage Knitwear

Saturday, February 18th, 2012

Japanese fashion label Sophnet has developed two pieces of Camouflage knitwear as part of their Spring/Summer 2012 line. The Camouflage Knit Cardigan has the blue sleeves and full-back camo while the Camouflage Crew Neck Knit features the single sleeve camo. Pricing for the Cardigan is ¥26,250 ($330 US) and ¥23,100 ($290 US) for the Crew Neck. If you ask me, the line needs more MultiCam and A-TACS, especially at that price.

The next incarnation of Modern Warfare 3, or DLC?

Friday, February 17th, 2012

Note: it’s just a joke, but it’s a very elaborate and well done fan spoof.

Everybody can be a zipper suited sun god.

Friday, February 17th, 2012

“No matter how deep Tom Cruise sinks into Scientological insanity, or how pudgy and disconnected from reality Val Kilmer becomes, will there ever be a red blooded American male who wouldn’t put a full nelson on the chance to pilot a fighter jet, and play Maverick or Ice Man in a dogfight? Air Combat USA, and its fleet of SIAI Marchetti SF-260s, pin down dreams of aerial combat, while average Joes and their $1,395 make those dreams come true.

In its Basic Air Combat Maneuvers course, Air Combat USA turns everyone from programmers to stone masons to ballerinas into fighter pilots for a day. You and an instructor (but mainly you. Really.) will command a light attack jet through tense skies rife with enemies, duking it out during 5 to 6 dogfights that will demand precise flying, aerial acrobatics, heavy G forces, weapons lock…all the fun stuff leading up to, but excluding the part where someone gets hurt. And from takeoff to landing, the experience, and every Hot Shots Part Deux quote you utter, will be digitally recorded on 3 cockpit cameras for you to take home, sync with a deep cut of musical drama, and upload to YouTube like your man in the video…”

Um…a unicorn gun with chainsaw? WTF?

Thursday, February 16th, 2012

Take a California legal S&W M&P15, put a tri-color dot optic and 6-position stock on it, then add an 18 volt rechargeable chainsaw with “fast swap bayonet mount”.

Then paint it in a gender-confused scheme that has nothing to do camouflage (or anything remotely tactical) and put a tail on it. What do you have?

Weird stuff…it’s out there.

Abraham Lincoln vs. Nosferatu

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Honest Abe’s mom was killed by some kind of supernatural creature, driving him to pursue a career of slaughtering vampires and their slave-owning allies. Who knew? It’s based on Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel.

Here’s a book review from a couple years back.

Zombie hearts for Valentine’s Day

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

Some sweets for zombies to celebrate. Anatomical hear cupcakes…hearts are better than brains, are they not?

Now if we could only get some for ourselves.

For Valentine’s Day: the Bulletproof Thong

Monday, February 13th, 2012

Nothing says I love you like a bulletproof thong. (They also have bulletproof wraps and regular bulletproof bikinis, if she doesn’t like dental floss defining her ass.) Note: absent the documentation of a proper ballistic test, we wouldn’t recommend you wear these skivvies to a gunfight.

Battlefield 3: Aftershock

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

EA has released Battlefield 3: Aftershock, a free game app on the iTunes store inspired by the upcoming movie ‘Act of Valor’. It’s a multiplayer game with four weapons (five, with an unlock) and “leading edge graphics”. Not bad for something free.

Thanks to Rob for the tip!
