Food Network Star Sunny Anderson ‘Grills for Heroes’

Monday, June 30th, 2014

U.S. Air Force veteran Sunny Anderson and the Propane Education & Research Council team up to collect recipes and raise money for veterans in new safe grilling campaign

WASHINGTON (June 30, 2014) — Today the Propane Education & Research Council and Food Network personality Sunny Anderson announce the launch of Grilling for Heroes, a campaign to collect grilling recipes and donations supporting veterans, while raising awareness of safe propane grilling practices.

Submit Best BBQ, Grill Recipes
Now through Sept. 30, 2014, grilling enthusiasts can submit their best recipes online at GrillingForHeroes.com along with a short anecdote about what the military means to them. After the submission period closes, the top 100 entries will be compiled into an online cookbook, which will be available for download Memorial Day 2015. Anderson will also choose her favorite recipe and story submission, and the winner will receive a free trip to Washington, D.C.

“Grilling is not only an American pastime but also one of my favorite ways to prepare delicious food,” Anderson says. “The opportunity to educate my fans and grillers about basic propane grill safety while also honoring fellow military personnel and veterans is deeply important to me.”

Goodwill donations from participating propane retailers and the public will be accepted in exchange for free downloads of the ecookbook next summer. One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit veterans through Hope For The Warriors, a nonprofit whose programs enhance the quality of life for post-9/11 service members and their families.

Top Grill Safety Tips
According to Weber’s annual GrillWatch survey, more than 60 percent of American home grillers use a propane gas grill. As July Fourth — the top grilling holiday of the year — approaches, PERC reminds grillers to follow important safety tips:

1. Follow instructions. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for assembling, using, and maintaining your grill.

2. Keep it outdoors. Outdoor propane grills should be located on a level surface at least five feet from the house, siding, outdoor furniture, and anything else that could be a fire hazard.

3. Be smart when lighting and relighting. Keep the lid open and don’t lean over the grill when lighting it. If the flame goes out, turn off the gas and refer to the owner’s manual. At a minimum, the National Fire Protection Association advises grillers to turn off the gas, keep the lid open, and wait at least 15 minutes before relighting.

4. Be present. A true grill master never leaves a grill unattended.

5. Check for leaks. Use a soapy water solution to check connections for leaks. Expanding bubbles indicate a leak. Follow this procedure when replacing a cylinder.

For more information about the campaign, for safe grilling tips, or to submit a grilling recipe and military story, visit GrillingForHeroes.com.

DoorKickers Beta Now Available

Friday, June 27th, 2014

Doorkickers Beta

After multiple Alpha iterations, DoorKickers has now reached beta status. The following changes and features have been introduced to the Beta build of DoorKickers:

Features:

– Challenges: in addition to the 3-star system, you can now complete challenges for each level. These do not count towards unlocking weapons but do gain your troopers XP.
– Plan saving: all paths up to the first “Play” command are saved and restored when restarting the map, also called the Daimaju feature (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5P849j6q5c).
– Unlockable items: items are now unlocked using the Stars currency.
– Unlockable classes: trooper classes (assaulter/breacher/etc.) are now unlocked by leveling up your squad.
– 8 new firearms.
– 3 new armor types.
– 8 new maps.
– Many improvements to enemy AI.
– Line of sight preview when drawing a path.
– Proper feedback indicators for enemies that are about to execute a hostage + added countdown timers for executioners.
– Feedback for the range of all sounds. Can be switched off in options.
– Added indicators for shield area of cover.
– Added enemy tooltips that show their equipment and intentions.
– When the line of fire is blocked by a friendly unit, a proper graphical indicator is rendered.
– The VIPs in “Protect the VIP” scenarios must be activated by proximity in order to be able to control them.
– Can customize the name/appearance of your troopers (wip, for now you can only loop through all the troopers in the database).
– Can now change resolution from the in-game video options.
– Support for more .wav formats. Previously an unknown format would crash the game.
– Added reverb sound effects (wip).
– Added new graphics/sounds effects (ejecting bullet shells, rain, fire etc.).
– Graphical updates to many maps, including the training ones.
– Improved overall graphics.
– Can now disable map zooming/panning from the options menu.
– Arrested enemies auto-move outside the line of fire between a swat and a fellow enemy.
– Selecting between paths that are over-imposed is now much easier.
– It is now possible to switch between pages in the Single Mission selection screen, via the small buttons on the bottom.
Fixes:

– Fixed the 50 mods limit downloaded from Steam.
– The “Export replay to movie” feature now works correctly on more (all?) hardware configurations (and faster).
– A crash that would sometimes happen after enabling/disabling mods and playing a game.
– Mods are no longer deleted after starting the game in offline mode.
– Deploy slots no longer look weird on very large screen resolutions.
– Flashbangs that could sometimes kill an enemy if they hit him.
– Too many trooper radio sounds in replays.
– A bug where shields would not stop bullets coming from grazing angles.
– Snipers can no longer target VIPs.
– A bug where modded weapons would show up more than one time in the equipment menu.
Modding / Structure changes:

– When updating a mod, the mod.xml “description” field is no longer updated on Steam Workshop.
– Can now use additional breaching charge types on a door.
– Maximum map size is no longer hardcoded at 4096×4096, though it’s still limited by the maximum texture size supported by the GPU. Recommended 8192×8192.
– Added more rendering layers (can now control which item renders on top of what item with more precision).
– All weapon mods that use bullet_trace.tga + bullet_trace_shotgun.tga should now use the .dds versions. Will remove the .tga ones in the next update.
– All weapon mods should update the firearms flare rendering layers to mimic the ones in the new equipment.xml version.
– All weapon mods should add bullet-shell-on-the-ground sounds like in equipment.xml. If your mod already added such sounds (e.g. SiC), make sure to take them out or add them using the new fields in equipment.xml.
– Graphics / Explosion sounds for flashbangs/breaching charges are now moddable. Mods that modify the flashbangs/breaching charges should modify them according to the new equipment.xml (added the explosion sounds and graphics).
– Crowbar/lock-picks added to the equipment items and can now be modded.

Star Wars Vans – Boba Fett Camo

Sunday, June 15th, 2014

camofett

In case you haven’t heard, Lucas Films (read: Disney) and Vans recently collaborated on a series of Star Wars-themed shoes. Now, if you’re planning on getting a pair, they’d have to feature the galaxy-far-far-away’s most feared bounty hunter, right? Aside from the presence of the Fett, the shoes also feature Vader, a Stormtrooper, and a vaguely Woodland-esque pattern with trees and Star Wars-logo branding throughout. Pick up a pair online, or at any licensed Vans dealers and shops.

SOLKOA – SUMA Survival Container

Getting Boxed In For Survival

How a “box” becomes a serious survival gear container and survival tool

Colorado Springs, CO, June, 2014, SOLKOA Survival Systems. — maker of highly-specialized survival kits for the government and civilian survival kits presents their SUMA* survival container. www.solkoasurvival.com

Background:

SOLKOA has applied their elite military unit survival experience and created the ultimate container for individual survival. This is NOT a plain Jane aluminum box, it is much different and that is the reason for its price, which begs the questions we will answer here shortly.

“When luck doesn’t last, you need something else that does. That’s why we don’t compromise quality when building our survival tools and components. SOLKOA’s commercial products are built to the same exacting standards as those we supply to elite special operations professionals operating worldwide. When your life is on the line you need tools you can rely on, especially under the worse conditions.” –LTC Bart Combs, US Army (Ret)-President, SOLKOA, Inc.”

Why the price? The light-weight SUMA survival containers and lids are CNC machined from solid blocks of ultra-tough 6061 aircraft grade aluminum resulting in thicker walls and specialized high-strength radius corners. The design and construction makes the SUMA much stronger than cheap stamped aluminum containers. This type of manufacture obviously costs more, but then again, what is your life worth?

The Real Masters Of Urban Camouflage? Disney

Tuesday, June 10th, 2014

There’s been a big push recently for gray colored gear thanks to its ability to “blend” into the urban landscape. Well, as it turns out, Disney’s practically perfected this ideal in their own proprietary Go Away Green and No See-um Gray colors. They coat their utility and auxiliary buildings in their various parks with the colors so that the guests pass by the buildings without noticing them.
