War for the Planet of the Apes – Official Trailer

Friday, March 31st, 2017

I’m still a sucker for the original series; their pronounced campy-ness is part of their charm. Regardless, this new Planet of the Apes series has been pretty good so far.

Destiny 2 – Rally The Troops Reveal Trailer

Thursday, March 30th, 2017

So, it kinda feels like they’re changing the tone a bit with the sequel to Destiny. Sure, there was the occasional twinge of humor, and dancing emotes, but the Deadpool-wannabe seems like a new direction.

NERF Dart Breaking The Sound Barrier

Wednesday, March 29th, 2017

YouTuber Giaco Whatever built a custom pneumatic cannon, and launched a NERF dart from it which achieved a speed of roughly MACH 2.3, or 2.3 times the speed of sound. While NERF darts are designed to, at best, sting a little, even a foam-body projectile will do quite a bit of damage going that speed.

Anyone want to try an guess the foot-poundage coming out of the muzzle on this one?

Check out more of Giaco Whatever’s videos on their YouTube channel here.

Call of Duty WWII Leaked

Tuesday, March 28th, 2017

Call of Duty WWII

By this point it’s not the most breaking news, but for those who aren’t aware, the latest game in the long-running Call of Duty franchise is going back to its roots and taking place during World War II. Called ‘Call of Duty WWII’, the new game is being developed by Sledgehammer Games. There hasn’t been a mainline game in the CoD series that takes place during this period since 2008’s ‘CoD: World at War’, developed by Treyarch. Based on the posters and various steel book game cases that were leaked, it looks like the game will take place at least partially on the Western front, with the D-Day invasion being prominently displayed in the promotional materials.

Since the latest Call of Duty titles have been drifting farther and farther into the realm of science fiction and alternate history, it doesn’t come as much of a shock that Activision and Sledgehammer are attempting a reset of the franchise, an appeal to those clamoring for a more ‘classic CoD experience’. With a game set in World War II, we’re pretty much guaranteed a lack of double jumping, infinite sprinting, wallrunning, direct energy weapons, and other now common CoD elements that, interestingly (perhaps ironically) enough, actually started with Sledgehammer’s first lone-developed CoD title, ‘CoD: Advanced Warfare’.

It’s worth mentioning that this may be the start of a trend of AAA developers revisiting historical wars in first person shooter games: EA and DICE took a bit of a risk and just last year introduced ‘Battlefield One’, a mainline Battlefield title that takes place during World War I, which has paid heavily in their favor both critically and commercially. Granted, there were some provisions and near-anachronisms made within ‘Battlefield One’ for the sake of enjoyable gameplay, but it was still a huge departure from the most recent numbered Battlefield titles, which take place in a world-spanning conflict in a modern setting. I can’t say in confidence that ‘CoD WWII’ is a reactionary attempt to capture some of Battlefield One’s success, since each game in the CoD series is released by one of three developers and is developed over a period of three years, but the franchises will once again be compared for their major departure in setting.

In any event, ‘another year, another CoD’ rings true yet again, even if we’re trading the space suits and laser rifles for olive drab combat uniforms and M1 Garands. We should still expect finicky gameplay balance, kill streaks, and map packs and microtransations aplenty.

Look forward to the inevitable official announcement for ‘CoD WWII’ when E3 rolls around this coming June.

Quick-Draw Revolving Pen Holder On Kickstarter

Monday, March 27th, 2017

Quick-Draw

KeyBar, a Georgia-based CNC company, has launched their first ever Kickstarter campaign for the ‘Quick-Draw’, a revolving pen holder. Made of aluminum, the Quick-Draw is shaped like a revolver cylinder with 8 chambers, and is designed to revolve on top of its base. It’s already made its funding goals, but if this project interests you be sure to pledge to guarantee yourself a ‘Quick-Draw’ when they come out.

Justice League Trailer

Sunday, March 26th, 2017

DC’s shared film universe, known officially as the ‘DC Extended Universe’, has been, frankly, a poorly-managed hodgepodge hurriedly crafted together in a desperate response to Marvel’s expertly handled (by comparison) ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’. As a result, what could/should have been good films were instead narratively unsound, critical disappointments, succeeding entirely on the properties they represent rather than than their own merits.

Ok, now that I have the pretentious critic angle covered, here’s my 2 cents on the newest ‘Justice League’ trailer.

Yeah, I’m pretty pumped to see a ‘Justice League’ movie is actually getting made. Yeah, it looks like they’re doing it right i.e. more ‘comic-booky’, even if it’s a bit jarring to go from BvS to this. However, trailers are meant to tantalize, and I’ve been burned before: pre-release material made BvS look really great, and even made Suicide Squad seem like it would be watchable. Then there’s Wonder Woman, which again, looks pretty neat, but it could always go south.

I’ll reserve further critique until ‘Justice League’ actually comes out in November, but, well, the track record of DC films speaks for itself. Enjoy the trailer, but be wary that’s this is a trailer, and all of the cool fight scenes and snappy dialogue compressed into a few minutes of footage are not representative of the final product.

Vollebak – Blood, Salt & Dirt Camo Range

Thursday, March 23rd, 2017

blood salt and dirt

Vollebak’s Blood, Salt & Dirt camo range is “clothing that’s pre-camouflaged for abuse.” Made of a high-stretch 22% elastane / 78% polyamide blend, the three shirts in the range are lightweight, breathable, and highly moisture wicking, and are designed to camouflage blood stains, sweat and salt, and dirt, respectively.

It seems as if the intent behind these clothes is to mask dirt, grime, and wear during strenuous physical and activity, but it comes across as the shirt equivalent of a battleworn/distressed finish on a new or barely-used firearm.

Tomenosuke 2049 Movie Prop Edition

Saturday, March 18th, 2017

400

Deckard’s unnamed LAPD-issued blaster is one of the most iconic firearms in sci-fi cinema, an amalgam of a Steyr Mannlicher .222 Model SL and a Charter Arms Bulldog revolver, further fitted with LEDs and additional parts. Japanese prop manufacturer Tomenosuke is releasing the 2049 Movie Prop Edition of what they call the ‘PRO Blaster’, a movie-accurate replica of Deckard’s Blaster.

A number of features have been improved when compared to earlier releases of the PRO Blaster, including more-accurate overall geometry, as well as the grip color being more in line with the screen variant. The 2049 Movie Prop PRO Blaser also comes complete with dummy cartridges.

KDG Mr. Murphy Patch: Celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day With Everyone’s Most Hated Irishman!

Thursday, March 16th, 2017

IMG_0456

Mission plans are like Bar Crawls; everything was going great until Murphy showed up…

We all have met Mr. Murphy, and we have yet to meet anyone that likes the guy. He’s been giving the Irish a bad name since before Saint Pat murdered all those snakes with his trusty Shillelagh!

Any military man or woman can tell you all about Mr. Murphy; well known for his universal law. Murphy likes to make frequent appearances right before uniform inspections, after you have bought nonrefundable plane tickets for your upcoming leave request, and even worse, during combat operations. According to old military superstitions, if you get three or more officers together to talk, he will appear in mere moments.

We here at KDG aren’t going to sugar coat it, we flat out hate Mr. Murphy. We asked our resident red-bearded Irishman Daniel O’Brien his thoughts on the matter, and he said, “If it wasn’t for Murphy and whiskey, Ireland would be a World superpower!” Collectively, KDG harbors an overwhelming, unrepentant amount of hatred for Mr. Murphy, and strive to avoid him at all cost. In the spirit of the holiday, we would like to offer our “NO MR. MURPHY!” morale patches for $5.00 with free shipping. For all orders over $30.00 placed on our website, you will receive a free Mr. Murphy patch with your order. The offer runs now through Sunday March 19. The patches are Velcro backed for attaching to plate carriers and hats, and are constructed out of high quality PVC material. PVC is a good choice for the spirit of Murphy’s Law, since it’s stain proof construction allows for green-tinted vomit to be easily washed off!

Here’s the real origin of Murphy’s Law.

Murphy’s Law (“If anything can go wrong, it will”) was born at Edwards Air Force Base in 1949, and was named after Capt. Edward A. Murphy. Captain Murphy worked as an engineer on Air Force Project MX981, which was designed to see how much sudden deceleration a person can stand in an aircraft crash.

One day, after finding that a transducer was wired wrong, he cursed the technician responsible and said, “If there is any way to do it wrong, he’ll find it.” The contractor’s project manager kept a list of “laws” and added this one, which he called Murphy’s Law.

Shortly afterwards, the Air Force doctor (Dr. John Paul Stapp) who rode a sled on the deceleration track to a stop, pulling 40 Gs, gave a press conference. He said that their good safety record on the project was due to a firm belief in Murphy’s Law and in the necessity to try and circumvent it.

Aerospace manufacturers picked it up and used it widely in their ads during the next few months, and soon it was being quoted in many news and magazine articles. Murphy’s Law was born.

Springfield Armory – Night Of The Saint

Wednesday, March 15th, 2017

I would like to start this off by reminding the readership that Springfield Armory’s SAINT is an AR-15 with BCM furniture, including an exclusive polymer forend, and a mid-length gas system.

Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, somehow SA has translated this concept into a Survivor meets Top Shot kinda thing with an all-woman cast. Here’s SA’s synopsis:

You will need to be so much more than a good shot. And your physical strength will only get you so far. It all comes down to mindset. Are you ready for the challenge? Six athletic and adventurous women agreed to go to a mountain in Wyoming. In the end, they learn that their biggest competition isn’t the person to their left or right, but rather their biggest competitor is themselves.

Cobalt Kinetics To Release CARS (Cobalt Advantage Reloading System) In Limited “Beta” Test

Tuesday, March 14th, 2017

597420e3-e2cb-4818-812c-53da12c10943

ST GEORGE, Utah, March 14 – Cobalt Kinetics, a manufacturer of premium performance and precision engineered rifles, today announces plans to open their CARS (Cobalt Advantage Reloading System) platform to the public as a limited beta test through select dealers. The highly anticipated release of the CARS is available as an upgrade package on the following Cobalt Kinetics rifle models: BAMF, Eclipse, Edge, Team, Team Stage 2.

The limited beta test will run through the end of May. The upgraded functionality of the “beta” CARS will cost $800 as a premium option when ordering. Additionally, Cobalt is extending continued warranty and support and any upgrades or improvements to the rifles purchased on this initial beta release.

Skylar Stewart, Vice President of Cobalt Kinetics said, “After a year of strenuous development and testing, we are ready to release the CARS functionality to select group of shooters for testing. We are confident with the engineering and performance and want to get feedback from enthusiasts, helping us put the final polish on the system.”

The CARS rifle autonomously drops an empty magazine and loads the chamber once an ammunition supply is present. When using a CARS equipped rifle, the user is only required to pull the trigger, and introduce a fresh magazine as ammunition becomes exhausted. More time and attention can be spent on target acquisition and engagement, allowing for faster and more accurate shooting. The CARS retains the standard operation of the AR-15 platform; the bolt catch and magazine release are still present and operational.

The CARS auto-drop feature can be selectively deactivated to retain an empty magazine. CARS auto-load is always active and operational; the gun will chamber ammo from a fresh magazine once it is inserted and seated. CARS functionality works with most AR-15 magazines.

The components used in the construction of the CARS system are made from D2 and S7 tool steel and coated in nickel-Teflon. This process produces parts that resist wearing while also reducing the need for lubrication.

CARS is in its 5th revision since inception; reflecting dozens of improvements and refinements by their engineers. The 5th revision was extensively tested, with over 15,000 rounds expended during development and was vetted by numerous experts in the industry.

Atomic Blonde – Red Band Trailer – NSFW

Monday, March 13th, 2017

If you feel this trailer for Atomic Blonde has a bit of a John Wick feel, it’s not surprising: David Leitch, co-director of John Wick and director of the upcoming Deadpool 2, is also behind this flick, in which Charlize Theron plays an MI6 agent sent to Germany on a top secret mission.

Oh, and in case the title didn’t give it away, this is pretty NSFW; you have been warned.

Thomas The RC Hexapod

Sunday, March 12th, 2017

I was on Reddit earlier today, and happened upon this .gif of a RC Hexapod modified with a Thomas the Tank Engine turret, complete with a working flamethrower. To be blunt, I found it hilarious, and thankfully the source was provided in the thread, which can be seen above.

It’s a product of YouTube channel PeterSripol, who modified the original Hexapod into the monstrosity it now is.

Mondo – A Stanley Kubrick Production T-Shirt

Thursday, March 9th, 2017

Kubrick-1_1024x1024

The shirt itself is pretty simple: it’s a blue cotton tee with ‘A Stanley Kubrick Production’ printed on the front. This particular bit of minimalist fashion was developed by Mondo in association with Alamo Drafthouse and Warner Bros., in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of author Anthony Burgess and the original release date the ‘A Clockwork Orange’, the film based on the Burgess’ same titled book; in-arguably his most popular publication, and arguably Kubrick’s finest film.

To further tie in the shirt to the film, the print mimics the design and font of the same text as seen in the ‘A Clockwork Orange’ opening credits.
