/r/GunDeals Is Back!

Saturday, March 31st, 2018

If you don’t frequent Reddit, you’re doing yourself a service. But if you do, you might be aware of the crackdown on subreddits that hosted user-to-user transactions, some of which were firearms-related. It came to light that this crackdown was due to the admins attempting to shut down any potential FOSTA violations on the site, rather than a reaction to the Parkland Shooting, or any other reason of the sort.

Today, it was revealed that /r/GunDeals, one of the most popular firearms, accessory, and ammunition sales aggregate subreddits, and a causality of this crackdown, was reinstated. The moderators of the subreddit worked closely with Reddit’s admins to insure that the subreddit would adhere to Reddit’s revised policies regarding sales aggregate subreddits, that is that all posted deals and sales are only made available through actual firearms dealer and retailers. While this was generally the way the subreddit was ran before the initial ban, it also means that links to websites such as Gunbroker or Armslist, can no longer be posted.

Twelve Open Airgun Athletes Changwon Bound after Rifle/Pistol Spring Selection

Thursday, March 29th, 2018

FORT BENNING, Georgia (March 29, 2018) — Twelve open airgun athletes will compete for Team USA at the 2018 International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championships later this summer after winning an intense two-part selection match that was finalized today at the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) in Fort Benning, Georgia.

Athletes began their quest during the 2017 Winter Airgun Championships and solidified their standing today at the Rifle/Pistol Spring Selection Match following a two-day match and Final. Team spots were handed out to the top-three finishers in Men’s and Women’s Air Rifle and Pistol. The World Championships will take place August 31-September in Changwon, South Korea.

Four Olympians earned their spots on the team including Nick Mowrer (Butte, Montana), Keith Sanderson (Colorado Springs, Colorado) and Sandra Uptagrafft (Phenix City, Alabama) in Air Pistol along with Lucas Kozeniesky (Fairfax, Virginia) in Men’s Air Rifle.

Of note, all today’s Finals winners across the four Open events were 18 or younger in a great showcase of USA Shooting’s future promise.

The 2012 Olympian Mowrer was dominant across the two matches winning by 28 points in Men’s Air Pistol. Surprisingly, this talented multi-discipline shooter makes his first World Championship after more than eight years on the international competition circuit. James Hall (Anniston, Alabama) earned the second spot in Men’s Air Rifle and makes his first World Championship Team, despite shooting 22 points lower over his two qualification matches at Spring Selection than he did at Winter Airgun.

Making his third World Championship Team where he’ll be competing in his fifth pistol discipline is the three-time Olympian Sanderson. The 43-year-old is the reigning World Cup Finals champion and USA Shooting’s Male Athlete of the Year.

Another notable performance was 18-year-old Jack Leverett’s (Bainbridge, Georgia) Spring match as he finished second overall and was just four points behind Sanderson for open team consideration. He showed he’s in prime form as the 2018 National Junior Olympic Shooting Championship (NJOSC) are next month and will serve as the Junior selection match for World Championships. Challenging him there will be another 18-year-old in Kyler Swisher (Jonestown, Pennsylvania), who was today’s Finals winner.

The game has changed in Women’s Air Pistol with an additional 20 shots added to qualification, but that didn’t seem to faze Alexis Lagan (Boulder City, Nevada) as she defeated the field by 10 points this match and 18 points overall for World Champs selection. She’ll compete in her first World Championships later this summer.

“With the recent change in Women’s Air Pistol, I think this match was challenging, but also new and exciting,” Lagan said after the match. “We all learned a little something and will be able to work on it as we prepare for Korea. There is a lot of potential on our team, and I cannot wait to see it blossom at the World Championships.”

Joining her will be the 2012 Olympian Uptagrafft while 17-year-old Sarah Choe (Los Angeles, California) continues to show maturity beyond her years in earning her selection as well. She would put the exclamation point on her proud moment with a Finals win earlier this afternoon.

Air Force Academy sophomore Logan Ogden (Galway, New York) is the top overall finisher for World Champs selection in Men’s Air Rifle, narrowly defeating Dempster Christenson (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) by .3 points. Earning the third spot is 2016 Olympian Lucas Kozeniesky (Fairfax, Virginia). Ogden will compete in his first World Championship while Christenson readies for his third straight opportunity with Kozeniesky competing as a junior back in 2014.

Today’s notable performance came from 16-year-old Will Shaner (Colorado Springs, Colorado), who earned the Finals win in Men’s Air Rifle.

In Women’s Air Rifle, Mindy Miles (Weatherford, Texas) is putting the finishing touches on a great collegiate career at Texas Christian University and made that much sweeter today with her top overall selection. She edged fellow TCU alum Sarah Beard (Danville, Indiana) by 9.7 points with Ali Weisz (Belgrade, Montana) earning the final selection spot. Miles will compete in her second World Championship after making the junior final in 2014, finishing eighth. Beard is headed to her third straight World Championship and knows what being on the podium there feels like after earning a prone silver medal in 2010 as a junior.

Reigning Olympic gold medalist Ginny Thrasher (Springfield, Virginia) finished fourth overall for World Champs selection, just .3 points behind Weisz.

Emily Stith (Jacksonville, Florida) was today’s Finals winner in the event and finished third in the Spring Selection Match. This is an impressive performance after spending much of the last few months in Army basic training, forcing to miss Winter Airgun, and just getting assigned to the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit earlier this week.

These athletes join the 24 shotgun athletes that earned their selection to the World Champs Team last weekend in Tucson, Arizona during the Shotgun Spring Selection Match. Read what shotgun athletes are Changwon bound as well in Skeet and Trap.

RESULTS: http://bit.ly/2usBG28
The Spring Selection Match continues Friday with the start of the smallbore (.22 caliber) events in both disciplines including Men’s Rapid Fire Pistol, Women’s Sport Pistol and Three-Position Rifle for both men and women. Another 12 athletes will earn their way onto the team with results carried over from the 2017 Rifle/Pistol Fall Selection Match. Get those results here . . .

Queensland Police Bring Down a Drone Using DroneGun at a Commonwealth Games Venue

Tuesday, March 27th, 2018

This post was originally featured on Soldier Systems Daily.

In February 2018, DroneShield was proud to announce that the Queensland Police Service would be utilising multiple units of DroneShield’s DroneGun for aerial protection of the XXI Commonwealth Games in Brisbane. The Australian media is now reporting that a DroneGun has been deployed in a live incident near a Commonwealth Games venue in Brisbane. The media reports indicate that a drone breaching an aerial exclusion zone around the Games’ venues was neutralised using a DroneGun, and the drone operator was apprehended.

Peter Beattie AC, Chairman of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation, is reported by the media to have stated that the safest place in Australia during the Games is at the Games. DroneShield seconds that statement, and is proud to be effectively and efficiently contributing to the security of 6,600 athletes from approximately 70 countries and tens of thousands of Australian and foreign spectators.

Oleg Vornik, DroneShield’s CEO commented, “Much of the use of our products is not publicly-known. Security and military agencies rarely comment on deployments and specific incidents. We are proud to have secured the skies for the public at the Games, as is evident from this incident which became public.”

Nikon Announces P-TACTICAL SPUR Reflex Sight

Monday, March 26th, 2018

Melville, NY (March, 2018) – For 2018 Nikon is bringing you its world-renowned optics for the first time in a reflex sight. With the introduction of the SPUR to Nikon’s new P-TACTICAL optics family, you can now enjoy Nikon’s optical quality for a variety of applications. With a 3 MOA red dot, long battery life and an extensive list of features, SPUR is an ideal optic for virtually any firearm platform where fast, reliable, intuitive sighting is desired.

Engineered with fully multicoated lenses and Nikon’s proprietary “TRUCOLOR” coating, which virtually eliminates the bluish tint common to reflex sights, the P-TACTICAL SPUR provides a clear, natural view for both-eyes-open sighting. The SPUR’s 3 MOA dot is adjustable with 10 levels of brightness—the first two settings being night vision compatible — and is centered within a 27mm x 16mm sighting window for an extra-wide field of view with unlimited-and-non-critical eye relief.

Battery life for the P-TACTICAL SPUR is estimated to be 15,000 hours of continuous usage. To provide shooters confidence in their optic being ready in the time of need, the red dot in the display will flash to indicate it is time to change batteries.

To shrug off the constant recoil that occurs in both rail- and slide-mounted applications, Nikon builds the SPUR on a compact (1.8” x 1.1” x 1”), lightweight (1.1-ounce) aluminum alloy chassis that is shockproof, waterproof (IPX7) and extremely durable. The sight includes a removable Picatinny rail mount for fast, easy mounting to MSRs or any firearm with Picatinny rail or base and a protective hood that covers the sight during storage.

Suggested retail price for the new Nikon P-TACTICAL SPUR reflex sight is $219.95. The SPUR and all of its components are covered by Nikon’s 5-Year Warranty.

Bismarck Police Department Selects the SIG SAUER P320

Wednesday, March 21st, 2018

Newington, N.H. (March 21, 2018) – SIG SAUER, Inc. is proud to announce that the Bismarck Police Department has selected the P320 striker-fired pistol as its handgun of choice.

The city commission approved the purchase of 140 SIG SAUER P320 handguns equipped with X-RAY3 pistol sights, for faster sight acquisition under all lighting conditions.

“The department needs to replace our handguns due to some documented malfunctions and reliability concerns over the last couple of years,” said Bismarck Police Chief Dan Donlin, speaking of their current sidearm.

Employing its cadre of certified firearms instructors, the department conducted extensive testing of firearms from three manufacturers. In addition to the P320, the department tested the Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0, and the Glock® 17 & 19. According to Chief Donlin, the decision was quickly narrowed down to the SIG SAUER P320 based on performance and reliability.

“The SIG SAUER, in the majority of opinions, outperformed the Glock,” Donlin said. “It provided a lot more overall comfort and handling in the varying hand sizes of our officers,” noting the modularity of the P320, with its three sizes of grip module to choose from. “The SIG, out of the box, was very accurate. Even our best shooters couldn’t believe how much better they shot with the SIG versus the Glock.”

“SIG SAUER is very proud to have been chosen by the Bismarck Police Department,” said Tom Jankiewicz, Executive Vice President, Law Enforcement Sales. “The P320 was chosen because of its modularity, accuracy and most importantly its reliability. These officers put their lives on the line, and we’re humbled to have our products chosen to help keep them safe.”

KOTA Longboards Spitfire Mk V Electric Longboard On Kickstarter

Tuesday, March 20th, 2018

KOTA Longboards is a Veteran-owned and operated company based in Denver, Colorado that manufactures commercial longboards. They get their name from the ‘Knights of the Air’ moniker coined in France during the early days of WWI, used to describe the pilots of early airplanes.

They started a Kickstarter campaign to fund their Spitfire Mk V Electric Longboards. The Spitfire Mk V is powered by a 35 volt battery, with a range of 15-17 miles on a single charge, and it’s capable of speeds of 22-25 MPH.

The best part is this setup can be paired with one of KOTA’s awesome Military-inspired decks, which is treated with KOTA’s proprietary KOTAgrip, a clear gloss finish which foregoes the need for grip tape while preserving the surface art.

SOG Knives – Voodoo Hawk Mini

    Sunday, March 11th, 2018

SOG’s Voodoo Hawk Mini is, as its name implies, a smaller version of the original Voodoo Hawk. How much smaller? Well, admittedly not majorly so:

Length: 12.5″ (Mini) vs. 12.56″ (Voodoo)

Blade: 2.75″ (Mini) vs. 3.5″ (Voodoo)

Weight: 23.10 oz. (Mini) vs. 28.50 oz. (Voodoo)

Still, it is measurably more compact, and with the same general design and material composition, just as functional and durable as the original.

Plus, the Voodoo Mini is about a sawbuck less expensive than the original Voodoo, and like its big brother comes with a nylon, snap closure sheath.

Air Venturi Releases Nomad 4500 PSI Portable Compressor

    Saturday, March 10th, 2018

Compact compressor is designed to fill PCP guns directly from a wall outlet or a car battery

Solon, Ohio (March 8, 2018) – Air Venturi, the leading manufacturer and importer of airgun, airsoft, and ammunition brands, is introducing the Air Venturi Nomad, a 4500 PSI portable air compressor built for the airgunner on the move. Now available at AirVenturi.com, the release offers a portable, affordable filling option for PCP shooters.

“With the release of the Air Venturi 4500 PSI Compressor last year, we gave airgunners one of the first affordable PCP fill stations, a workhorse that could fill tanks and PCP guns alike at a much faster rate.” Says Kristen Coss, Marketing Manager at Air Venturi, “The Nomad is positioned as a portable fill station you can take with you, and is designed for filling PCP guns directly. It won’t fill as fast as the original AV compressor, but can easily pressurize a 250cc cylinder from empty to filled in just 9 minutes. If you have access to a car battery, you can fill your gun in as little as 3 minutes.”

According to Paul Milkovich, Air Venturi’s Director of Business Development, the Air Venturi Nomad Compressor marks a turning point in PCP airgunning and may attract more users to PCP airguns. “Typically compressors can be heavy, large, and have to stay cooped up in the garage. With an MSRP of $549.99, our compressor puts fast, portable refills within reach, at an attractive price.”

The Nomad plugs into a standard 110V outlet or attaches to a standard car battery. Once connected, it can fill PCP guns directly up to to 4500 psi with an adjustable cut-off switch. Each compressor includes a hose with female quick disconnect fitting, integrated moisture catch, and a bleed valve.

    Approximate fill times:

Benjamin Marauder Pistol (65cc): 0-3000 psi in approx. 3 min
Diana Stormrider (100cc): 0-3000 psi in approx. 3:45 min
