Maxim Silencer – The Best Christmas Present Ever

The Cody Firearms Museum has a collection of digitally-scanned firearms advertisements from years past, including this particular ad from the Maxim Silent Firearms Co. of Hardford, Conneticut, the first commercial producer of firearms suppressors. Intended for .22 caliber firearms, the ad openly claims you can now shoot your .22 in your home “…without causing the slightest disturbance.” Try getting away with something like that these days.

They also had a Noiseless Bullet Stop sand box for sale, to accompany a brand-new, mail-ordered can.

The prices listed for the Silencer and Bullet Stop are $5 and $3.50, respecively. That’s roughly $130 and $90 when accounting for inflation, and you didn’t have to pay for a tax stamp or wait for a background check.

Oh, how times have changed.
