This type of ammunition is gaining attention for its performance, environmental considerations, and versatility in various shooting scenarios. HOP Munitions has leveraged advancements in material science and manufacturing techniques to produce a distinctive product. This ammunition differs from traditional options, suggesting a new direction in the industry.

The development of this poly ammo reflects an effort to combine innovation with environmental responsibility. HOP Munitions has aimed to address contemporary needs in the shooting world, offering a product that they believe stands out in terms of quality and sustainability.

The Emergence of Polymer Ammunition

Polymer ammunition is becoming increasingly significant in the evolving shooting and hunting world. Polymer ammo represents a notable innovation in the field, with a 30% reduction in weight on average compared to traditional bullets. The growing popularity of polymer ammunition reflects the efforts of companies like HOP Munitions, which are dedicated to advancing ammunition technology.

Beyond its performance benefits, polymer ammunition is also gaining recognition as a more environmentally friendly option than traditional ammunition.

HOP Munitions and the Polymer Ammo Market

HOP Munitions is contributing to the evolving market of polymer ammunition. Their product, known as Polymer Bullets, is designed to offer different characteristics compared to traditional metal bullets, including potentially improved performance and durability.

These bullets are uniquely constructed with a lead core surrounded by a high-temperature polymer due to their injection molding process. This design approach distinguishes them from conventional metallic ammunition.

HOP Munitions’ focus on developing these polymer bullets reflects their role in the industry’s broader trend toward innovative ammunition solutions.

About HOP Munitions - Polymer Coated Ammo

Advantages of HOP Munitions’ Polymer Ammunition

  • Realistic Training Experience: Similar to JHP duty rounds, officers can train under conditions that closely replicate actual operations.
  • Weight and Cost Efficiency: Poly ammo is lighter and more affordable, allowing for more extensive and less physically demanding training sessions.
  • Durability: The polymer casings are robust and resistant to environmental factors, ensuring reliability.
  • Reduced Firearm Wear: The softer polymer material lessens the wear on firearms, extending their usability.
  • Environmental Friendliness: These rounds are more sustainable, thanks to the ease of recycling polymer casings.

HOP Munitions is contributing to advancements in ammunition technology with their 124-grain 9mm polymer ammo, designed to emulate the performance of standard 124-grain JHP duty ammunition.

This development is particularly relevant for law enforcement training, as it allows officers to practice with ammunition that closely mirrors real-world scenarios, enhancing the realism and effectiveness of their training. Increasingly, law enforcement agencies recognize this approach’s practicality and incorporate polymer ammunition into their training programs. The trend towards using ammunition that aligns more closely with duty rounds in performance reflects a broader interest in realistic, operationally relevant training methods.

Their poly-coated bullets, which feature a lead core wrapped in high-temperature polymer, aim to enhance shooting performance. These rounds offer several advantages, including reduced barrel wear, minimized fouling, improved accuracy, and affordability. They are especially beneficial for indoor shooting, as they emit fewer toxic gases. The bullets are also designed for smoother feeding from magazine to chamber, decreasing the chance of feed failures, and their reduced fouling in the barrel contributes to better accuracy and longer barrel life. The polymer coating primarily serves to lessen friction, facilitating a smoother and safer shooting experience.

Shell Shock Technologies’ NAS3 Casings Used in Liberty Ammunition’s New Ultra-Lights

Thursday, December 19th, 2019

Liberty Ammunition’s new Ultra-Lights, featuring Shell Shock Technologies’ casings, are 52 percent lighter than standard 125 grain 9mm lead jacketed hollow-points.

Westport, Conn. (December 2019) – Shell Shock Technologies, LLC., an early-stage technology and manufacturing company focused on developing innovative case technologies for the ammunition industry, announces that Liberty Ammunition has introduced its Ultra-Lights round featuring Shell Shock Technologies’ revolutionary NAS3 casings.

The new Liberty Ammunition Ultra-Lights are the Civil Defense rounds taken one step further. Liberty Ammunition’s innovative projectiles have been added to Shell Shock Technologies’ groundbreaking NAS3 casings. The 9mm Ultra-Lights total cartridge weighs only 93 grains, and is 52 percent lighter than standard 125 grain 9mm lead jacketed hollow-points.

“We are truly excited and proud to have our cutting-edge casings be a part of Liberty Ammunition’s innovative new Ultra-Light round,” said Craig Knight, CEO of Shell Shock Technologies.

Ultra-Lights Ballistic Performance:

• Total Cartridge Weight: 93 Grains

• Projectile Weight: 50 Grains

• Velocity: > 2,000 feet per second

• Kinetic Energy: > 450 ft. lbs.

• Permanent Cavity: 3 ½” W x 10-13” D

• Accuracy: < 1” at 25 meters

Liberty Ammunition’s Ultra-Lights projectiles are copper monolithic with nickel plating and are turned on a precision CNC machine for consistency and accuracy. They are lightweight, extremely fast projectiles, with a large diameter deep hollow-point cavity.

Our ammo penetrates barriers well, but when this cavity fills with soft tissue/liquid, the hydraulic pressure explodes the side walls of the projectile in a starburst-shaped pattern creating a devastating wound with multiple channels that cover a much greater area inside the target. Combined with Shell Shock Technologies’ two-piece cases, the new Ultra-Lights are the ultimate self-defense round.

About Shell Shock Technologies NAS3 Cases:

NAS3 9mm cases are 50 percent lighter than brass cases, offer greater lubricity and will not abrade, clog, foul, wear-out or damage breach and ejector mechanisms. The cases offer greater corrosion resistance, tensile strength (2x stronger) and elasticity than brass. NAS3 cases will not split, chip, crack or grow (stretch) and are fully reloadable (using S3 Reload dies) and can be reloaded many more times than brass cases. NAS3 cases have been tested successfully by customers to pressures over 70k psi. NAS3 cases can be picked up with a magnet. The head can be colored for branding purposes and easy load identification.

NAS3 is “Best in Class” for maintaining consistent velocity between rounds. In an independent test performed by H.P. White Laboratory (a major munitions testing facility), rounds fired using NAS3 cases achieved a velocity standard deviation of 0.093 FPS (124-grain FMJ bullet, 4.2 grains Titegroup powder, 10 rounds, extreme variation 3fps).
