CampCo – Remington Building Block Shotgun

Monday, June 21st, 2021

This is kinda interesting: CampCo, a company that is not expressly a toy manufacturer (from a cursory glance, they seem to sell all manner of licensed products such as pens, wallets, watches, for various outdoor, firearms, and automobile companies, among others) has released a “building block” — essentially a LEGO clone, if more in line with the Technic series — shotgun set. Seemingly inspired somewhat by the 870 Witness Protection model, or the more recent 870 Tac-14, this kit allows you to build your own model Pistol Grip Shotgun with Remington branding. Aside from being visually impressive, the pump-action is fully-functional, capable of loading and ejecting the included six model shells, and it also comes with an attachable red dot sight. Alas, no Remington 870 bayonet lug.

If you have a Scheels near you, you might find this in their toy department; that’s where I found it out in the wild, along with the Model 700-inspired sniper rifle. Otherwise, you can order directly from the CampCo website via the link below.

LEGO Star Wars Boba Fett Helmet Model Kit

Monday, July 13th, 2020

Fans of constructor sets and arguably the most standout charcter in the original Star Wars trilogy may want to give The LEGO Star Wars Boba Fett Helmet Model Kit a look. The LEGO Star Wars Boba Fett Helmet model kit is a LEGO set designed more for experienced LEGO builders, and adult fans, with an 18+ age rating. It consists of 625 pieces, so it’s fairly elaborate, but that shows through its impresive level of detail. When fully constructed, the helment measures 8.5″ x 4.5″ x 4.5″, and sits on a base with nameplate, so it won’t take up much space on a desk or shelf.

There’s also an equivalent set for the Stormtrooper helmet, if you’re preferential towards the Empire’s elite shock troops, or want a complete set.

Warbricks

Wednesday, March 4th, 2020

What started as a small homeschool project for the basics of business development turned into Warbricks.com, a business selling high-quality, European-made military vehicle construction sets.

The sets are manufactured by Cobi, a Polish toy manufacturer which offers LEGO-like, brick construction sets. Cobi sets are largely based on authentic military vehicles, including tanks, planes, and ships, although they’ve also received licensing for some major passenger vehicle manufacturers, Boeing, and even Doctor Who. Plus, Cobi sets are fully-compatible with brick constructor pieces from other brands, so you’ll be able to use the parts from these sets in other builds.

In addition to selling the Cobi sets, Warbricks.com also provides a brief history of the actual vehicle the set is based on, detailed on each product page.

So, if you’re looking to add a few historic vehicle construction sets to your toy collection, or just have an appreciation for vintage military vehicles, then you may want to give Warbricks.com a look see.

LEGO – 1989 Batmobile

Sunday, November 10th, 2019

Pay tribute to the Batman who killed goons on screen years before Batfleck in BvS with this LEGO Batmobile set. Designed specifically for older fans (it’s ages 16+ rated right on the box) this set is modeled after the batmobile from the 1989 Tim Burton Batman film, and consists of just a hair over 3300 pieces. The completed model comes in at over 60cm long, and features a slide-open cockpit with brand-new wraparound windshield element introduced with this set. Two hidden machine guns can pop out by turning the turbine exhaust, and this Batmobile also features decorative grappling hooks on either side.

This set also marks the first appearance of three new exclusive minifigures: Batman (w/ new torso decoration), The Joker (w/ new face and torso decoration), and Vicki Vale (w/ new torso and legs), all modeled after their appearance in the 1989 Batman film, along with a brick-built display stand.

This set will be made available on November 29th, and can be pre-orded direct from LEGO at: www.lego.com/en-us/product/1989-batmobile-76139

LEGO – Ultimate Collectors Series – Imperial Star Destroyer

Sunday, September 8th, 2019

LEGO will soon be releasing not just one of its largest Star Wars sets, but one of its largest sets yet released in general: the Imperial Star Destroyer ‘Devastator’ from the opening scene of Star Wars Episode 1: A New Hope. Consisting of almost 4800 pieces, this set is sized 14″ H x 43″ L x 26″ W fully constructed; 17″ high when set on its included display stand. It features swiveling guns, a tilting radar dish, huge engine exhausts, and intricate surface detailing. While it’s designed so that it can be picked up and handled, this is one by its very nature that’s designed to go straight into a display case.

Unfortunately, the included Minifigures are a bit limited: you get an Imperial Officer and Imperial Crewmember, each with their own pistol weapons. However, the set comes complete with a scale model of the rebel Tantive IV ship, and a TIE Fighter, both of which can be set within the docking bay, which is pretty cool.

Check out the video below to see LEGO Senior Designer Henrik Andersen go over the set and his process for designing it:

The Imperial Star Destroyer ‘Devastator’ set releases October 1st, or September 18th for LEGO VIP members.

Brickmania – MH-6 Little Bird – Delta Force Add-On Pack

Tuesday, August 28th, 2018

If you’re looking for LEGO-compatible sets based on real-life militaries, then you might want to check out the offerings of Brickmania. One such offering is their MH-6 Little Bird – Delta Force Add-On Pack. As its name implies, it’s a set that comes with four “custom-printed Delta Force” minifigures, complete with combat vests, ballistic helmets, GPNVG-18 goggles, and a variety of modern weapons: M110, M249, M4, and M21.

The minifigures alone are cool enough to function as a stand-alone set, but this is technically an add-on pack for Brickmania’s MH-6 Little Bird set.

ZaziNombies LEGO Creations – LEGO Fortnite Minigun

Saturday, February 24th, 2018

YouTube channel ZaziNombies’ lastest creation is a massive 6500 piece build of a minigun from the game ‘Fortnite’. It comes in at 4′ long and weights over 18 lbs. No word on the length of time it took to build this beast, but a conservative estimate of its cost, based on LEGO’s current pricing on various bricks, puts this build at ~$800-1000, if the pieces were bought individually.
You can check out more of ZaziNoimbies’ content via their YouTube page.

You never see it as an official LEGO set, but YouTube channel Brick Dictator created a stop motion based on the graphic novel series of the same name.

All-New LEGO Batmobile from Chevy

Saturday, January 14th, 2017

Holy marketing cross-overs, Batman!

This commercial from Chevy depicts LEGO Batman’s Batmobile as a vehicle under their lineup, a parody of their recent string of (annoying) focus group commercials.

If I had $48 million lying around, and this was real, I’d buy one.

AstonishingStudios – Working LEGO Replica NERF Maverick REV-6 Blaster

Monday, January 2nd, 2017

Take a look at the video above, where YouTuber AstonishingStudios creates a replica of the NERF Maverick REV-6 Blaster, entirely of LEGO pieces. While that’s impressive enough, the resulting model not only actually fires, but fires real NERF foam darts.

Flexo On Kickstarter

Wednesday, September 21st, 2016

I feature a lot of LEGO products and related projects on this site, so when I saw the Kickstarter for Flexo I knew I had to write something about it. Flexo is a new brick and tendon system which is compatible with current brick brands, such as LEGO and Mega Bloks. The tendons add flexibility and angular capability to whichever bricks they’re attached to, making it easier for creators to create angles, add independent suspensions to vehicles, and more.

LEGO Ideas – Voltron

Saturday, April 23rd, 2016

Voltron

An individual with the handle of len_d69 has introduced a proposal on LEGO Ideas (formerly LEGO CUUSOO) for a Voltron set. What makes this doubly cool isn’t just that it’s a Voltron set, but that it’s composed of the five separate lions, and they can form into Voltron, just like in the show. Like all Ideas/CUUSOO proposals, it requires two things: enough user/voter support, and, more importantly, the approval of the original rights holder.

LEGO Fat Man

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2015

YouTube channel ZaziNombies has created a fully functioning Fat Man portable nuke launcher out of LEGO bricks. The Fat Man is one of the strongest weapons in the Fallout series, first featured in Fallout 3. The Fat Man was inspired by the Davy Crockett tactical nuclear recoilless gun, which was developed during the Cold War.

SDCC 2015 – LEGO Booth – Hulkbuster Vs Hulk

Thursday, July 9th, 2015

There is an awesome showing at the LEGO booth this year, including the latest LEGO building sets, such as the new Jurassic world themed sets, and the ultimate Star Wars minifig collection. Perhaps the most impressive feature at the booth, however is the Hulkbuster vs Hulk sculpture.

LEGO CUUSOO – LEGO Lightsabers: Darth Vader And Luke Skywalker

Saturday, March 1st, 2014

thumb640x360

Currently up on LEGO CUUSOO at the idea stage is this pair of Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker lightsaber LEGO models. If it reaches 10,000 supporters, the current design of the finalized set includes Luke and Vader minifigures, which sit upon a display stand which also seats the two brick built lightsabers. Each saber has a focusing crystal as part of the design, and is designed to support a brick built blade attached to the hilt.

LEGO CUUSOO Land Rover Defender 110

Thursday, January 2nd, 2014

thumb640x360

Fully supported on LEGO CUUSOO is the Land Rover Defender 110 set. Built to a 1:8.4 scale, the Defender is 100% radio controlled and is capable of achieving a max speed of 2.5mph. It features a 5+R speeds secuential gearbox with auto clutch, 2-speeds transfer case, RWD and AWD modes, and all wheels disc brakes. It also has both live axles with long-travel suspension, complete interior with working steering wheel and speed indicator, and the bodywork can be removed in one piece by removing only 4 pins.

lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/16894

For those unfamiliar with the CUUSOO line, it’s kind of like Kickstarter for custom LEGO sets, but supported by the LEGO company. Users create and share a project concept. If the project reaches 10,000 supporters, it will be reviewed by LEGO for a chance to become an official LEGO product. The project creator also gets a royalty of 1% of total net sales of the product if it’s produced.
