Here’s A Bit Of Footage from The Upcoming ‘World War Z’ Movie

Tuesday, November 6th, 2012

Hooray! Hollywood is completely missing the point of the book being an account of a world recovering from a massive zombie war as told from the perspective of multiple people. Instead, they’ve turned it into a generic modern zombie flick with a god-like-solve-all-problems solo protagonist in Brad Pitt! I’m totally sure it’s a way better story.

The Walking Dead – The Musical

I was totally expecting the zombies to eat the dude anyway after their little song and dance number. Missed opportunity if you ask me.

Black Ops 2 – Zombies Reveal Trailer

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012

The reveal trailer for zombies mode in the upcoming CoD: Black Ops 2 just came out today. Personally, I would have waited to release this until Halloween rolled around, but then again I’m also not a member of the marketing team for a billion dollar game franchise.

M48 Apocalypse Series Tactical Tomahawk

Saturday, September 22nd, 2012

While it has a bright green ‘zombie’ handle, the M48 Apocalypse Series Tomahawk does have some good features going for it. The 8″ head, constructed from 2Cr13 stainless steel, has two sharpened blades, the axe and spike. The 30% nylon reinforced handle secures the head with three separate bolts and is wrapped in black paracord. The M48 also comes with a nylon belt sheath with belt loop and snap closure buttons. It’s a United Cutlery piece, and they do offer a ‘non-zombified’ all-black version as well, if the Apocalypse model isn’t your thing.

Available on Amazon.com.

The Walking Dead Escape

Saturday, June 23rd, 2012

The Walking Dead Escape at Petco Park in San Diego, CA gives those who participate a chance to experience the thrill of a zombie apocalypse turned obstacle course as either a survivor, walker, or a spectator, watching the carnage unfold safely from the sidelines. The course is specifically designed for people with a wide range of abilities, including obstacles such as rope bridges and cargo nets, but includes an easy path if the challenges prove a bit too difficult; this path does increase of becoming walker chow, however. The event is pay-for-play ($80 a head) and runs from July 12-14. You can find out more details on the official website.

Thanks to Dev for the tip!

The Zombie

Monday, June 18th, 2012

Yet another video of an individual dressing like one of the undead and terrorizing random people. Although this one seems at least partially scripted, you have to wonder when one of these zombie pranks will end in tragedy.

Vannen Walkers 2.0 Watch

Saturday, June 9th, 2012

Vannen has released the ‘Walkers 2.0’ watch, which features imagery from Robert Kirkman’s highly successful graphic novel series ‘The Walking Dead’. It features a 43mm matte white plastic case, 22mm wide, sandwich style strap, and 3 hand Japanese quartz movement; nothing tactical about this watch folks, just something fun to own.

The ‘Walkers 2.0’ is limited to 600 pieces and the packaging is signed by Kirkman so it could be considered a collectable. Also of note is the watch is water resistant up to 10 meters, although Vannen still recommends keeping it away from water.

You can purchase one at vannenwatches.com – Walkers 2.0

Plague Town: Getting the zombies right

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

Dana Fredsti has written a zombiepocalypse novel. She wanted to get it right.

Tactical Fanboy: Check out "Plague Town" on Under the Radar

“..So I enlisted (pun intended) expert help.  Rather than try and explain the type of things I asked, here’s a good example of an actual question sent to Staff Sergeant Phillip McSorley (who also read several scenes for me to check for accuracy and realism): Oh Military Expert Person! I am writing a scene where a group of soldiers are going to a mountain rest stop to clean it (zombies, doncha know). It’s from the perspective of one guy, a lieutenant, and I have no idea of what tactics they’d use… who goes in first, do they really say things like “Charlie Tango Donut, over!” … Do they send in pairs? I’m thinking this is a small group (would there be a specific number?) and again, while it’s military, they don’t have to be specifically army or marine or air force as their specific job is taking care of zombie outbreaks. And yes, I realize this sounds totally lame… but I swear the book isn’t!”

If you like zombies and you like Army of Darkness chances are you’re going to like Plague Town.

Zombie-fightin’ with NODs.

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

When you’re talking true nightvision vs. thermal, which is more effective vs. zombies? Will walking corpses maintain heat signature substantially different than their surroundings, and if so will it be sufficient to identify them in a fight? These are the questions that keep me up late at night…that and wondering where Carl is.  This video is US Night Vision Gen III Night Vision & Thermal Imaging Video Shot In HD On iPhone 4S. PVS-14 / PVS-7 Camera Systems. Follow ’em on Facebook.

Oh, and yes, I am using an old term. When I was a boot, any sort of night vision/thermal device was referred to as a NOD (Night Optical Device).

Take Aim at the Enemy of Humanity

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

Note: TFB is happy to share this article from Red2Alpha, long-time reader of Tactical Fanboy and ardent Cylon-hater.

I have stated publicly that I will not rest until the Cylon threat to humanity is recognized for what it is: A slow, creeping plot that if not stopped will eventually see the human race reduced to near extinction and for those who do survive, a life of slavery to their silicon based overlords.  Do your part to prevent humanity from entering that dark night by sharpening your skills with this Cylon Centurion target poster.

Zombie Awareness 101: Interviews with Romero and Kirkman

Monday, February 27th, 2012

Walking Dead has certainly increased the zombie awareness of the United States, if that’s even possible. We’re fans of the comic series more than the television stuff, though both are damn good…but that’s not the point. The point is, here’s an interview with George Romero.

Now, just so we’re clear, we love Robert Kirkman at least as much as we do George Romero (if not more so), so here you go:

LaserLyte Zombie Killer Pistol Bayonet

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

Featuring a 2.75″ steel blade by Ka-Bar, this LaserLyte pistol bayonet has a radioactive green handle, constructed from 30% glass-filled nylon, to easily identify its status as a high-caliber, zombie-slaying tool of destruction. It attaches to any medium or large sized pistol with a rail, easily sliding on or off with a press of two buttons. A custom polymer sheath is also included.

Um…a unicorn gun with chainsaw? WTF?

Thursday, February 16th, 2012

Take a California legal S&W M&P15, put a tri-color dot optic and 6-position stock on it, then add an 18 volt rechargeable chainsaw with “fast swap bayonet mount”.

Then paint it in a gender-confused scheme that has nothing to do camouflage (or anything remotely tactical) and put a tail on it. What do you have?

Weird stuff…it’s out there.

Zombie hearts for Valentine’s Day

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

Kickstarter: Zombie Graphic Novel FUBAR Makes New York Times Best Seller List

Saturday, January 28th, 2012

This is pretty cool. Always good to see someone achieve success, especially someone without contacts and agents and whatnot. This guy began a Kickstarter page for his graphic novel, and now it’s on the New York Times best seller list. That’s awesome and we with him continued success. Read the story in its entirety here.

SHOT 2012: Anti-Zombie Chainsaw Pic Rail Attachment

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

Finally, someone has developed a rail-attach chainsaw for anti-zombie work. Frankly, it’s overdue, so kudos to Doublestar for finally getting it done. Known as the Zombie X (for Zombie Exterminator), Doublestar had this display out for those of you preparing for the Zombiepocalypse at the Doublestar Booth. This thing has a separate power/activation and a battery at the butt of the Kalash it mounts to (it will also mount to an AR, though it might be a little much weight to add to an M249). The chainsaw is fully functional and has its own EOTech sight (there’s a separate optic for the rifle itself). No word as to whether they’ve considered replacing the EOTech with  one of those lasers you see on fancy saws at the hardware stores (you know, the ones that show where the cut line is).

Keep in mind if you do use a chainsaw during a zombiepocalyptic event, you must wear a full face mask, not just eye pro. You think a money shot in the dirty movies is gross? Try avoiding the infection (and vomiting) sure to follow when you get a face full of zombie gore after carving it into pieces.

Currently the Zombie-X is not for sale. This prototype was built for FEMA, Homeland Security Zombie Division and the SHOT Show only. If you actually want one, you’ll need to contact Doublestar. Hopefully the production models (since they build the full rifle in addition to the chainsaw pic-rail attachment) will come with a BattleComp.

SHOT 2012 Brains: the new zombie magazine

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

There were a lot of new zombie products at SHOT 2012. Maybe too much. Optics, bullets, t-shirts. Pretty much everything but real zombies (unless you count some of the dumbasses displaying a shocking lack of range safety out at the Media Day on the Range).

Anyway, a couple of guys checking out the new zombie Eotech and another guy looking at some new zombie targets (article coming up shortly on those) mentioned this new Brains magazine, so we checked it out. Visually, it’s not as easy to read as we’d like, and it’s certainly no Recoil, but it’s surprisingly well done.

This is what the table of contents looks like:

Tactical Fanboy: Brains Magazine

They also have a zombie centerfold:
