NERF Rival Curve Shot Blasters

Tuesday, February 9th, 2021

As far as comic book movie adaptions go, 2008’s ‘Wanted’ is about as in-name-only and middling as you can get, but at least it had one memorable aspect to it: the bullet curving practiced by the film’s assassins sect. NERF’s upcoming Rival Curve Shot blaster line looks to replicate this bit of Hollywood ridiculousness, with a series of blasters that are able to impart spin on the Rival line spherical projectiles. Consisting of three blasters: the Flex XXI-100, Sideswipe XXI-1200, and Helix XXI-2000 (seen above), the magic of the Curve Shot line lies in the muzzle device, which features a small internal tab that can be rotated to various angles. Once the projectile passes through the muzzle the tab imparts spin on it, allowing it to curve left, right, or down depending on how its set; a neutral position is also available to allow the rounds to shoot straight. The projectiles are able to achieve speeds of up to 90 feet per second, so goggles are recommended.

The Flex and Sideswipe will be available in stores starting March 1, while the Helix is reportedly a Target exclusive and will be made available starting in August.

NERF Rival – Overwatch Reaper Wight Edition Blaster

Sunday, August 12th, 2018

There have been some licensed NERF blasters in the past, although the only instance that immediately comes to mind is Star Wars-themed blasters. So, it’s not completely surprising that Overwatch, a game with a lot of unique firearms, is now getting a NERF blaster in the Reaper Wight Edition Blaster. As the name implies, this blaster is stylized after Reaper’s Hellfire shotguns, and as it’s part of the Rival series, it’ll shoot the spherical Rival projectiles, of which it can hold 8, instead of the traditional darts.

A D.Va blaster will also be released, modeled after the character’s sidearm.

Both of these blasters don’t have a definitive release date, but look for them to reach store shelves sometime in 2019.

Tested – Adam Savage’s One Day Builds: 1000 Shot NERF Blaster

Friday, June 8th, 2018

It seems like the Rival series blasters are the ones to build mods for, because here’s another capacity mod, this time courtesy of special effects designer and former co-host of Mythbusters Adam Savage. Within a single day, Adam not only creates a slick-looking, if bulky, 1000-shot magazine/hopper, but also installs a bipod and an offset electronic optic. It’s honestly like a NERF Bren, turned up to 11.

You can check out more of Tested’s videos on their YouTube channel.

Captain Xander – NERF Rival Minigun

Monday, January 15th, 2018

A year of effort by YouTuber Captain Xander went into the creation of a NERF Rival minigun which is capable of firing 20 projectiles a second, and feeds from a backpack with a capacity of 2000 rounds. The video’s relatively lengthy, but seeing everything from the process to the test fire is worth the watch.

NERF Rival – Flashlight Grip

Thursday, December 21st, 2017

One thing I appreciate about the more recent NERF products is the mimicry of furniture and features found on actual firearms, like accessory rails and optics, or in the case of this NERF Rival accessory, a combination flashlight and foregrip. Called the ‘Flashlight Grip’, this particular foregrip features a quick-release camlock, and features an LED light powered by 3 AAA batteries. The lumens aren’t mentioned, but at $15, I’m guessing it’s not that bright. Still, a pretty cool addition to the Rival line, all the same.

NERF Rival – ‘Nemesis MXVII-10K Blaster’

Saturday, August 12th, 2017

NERF Rival is a sub-brand of NERF that features blasters that fire ball-shaped projectiles rather than the traditional darts. The Nemesis MXVII-10K blaster is the largest blaster yet offered in the Rival series, with a large, 100-round gravity feed hopper. It’s also fully automatic, because with a capacity that large, why wouldn’t it be?
